New Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Sets Nürburgring Record in New EV Class, Still Trails BMW M2 CS

The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4Matic+ has already made a splash at the Nürburgring. 070 seconds. Mercedes says that makes it the first record holder in a newly created Nürburgring category called Electric Compactcars. Driver Kevin Berger set the time on his first flying lap on a beautiful summer day.

The record run used the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package and high-performance Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. The package adds a Race drive mode and raises the top speed. Mercedes credits the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, firm track-focused suspension, and special drivetrain conditioning for strong cornering, traction, and sustained boost.

The new CLA 45 uses three electric motors. They produce 671 horsepower in short bursts, or 603 hp in normal driving. A 94-kWh battery provides a WLTP range of 416 miles and can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes on a 330-kW DC charger. 7 seconds, weighs 5,026 pounds, and has a standard top speed of 155 mph, or 168 mph with the Dynamic Plus Package.

The CLA 45 has a more aggressive exterior, including a Panamericana-style grille, broader fenders, standard 19-inch wheels, optional 20-inch wheels, and an active rear spoiler. Mercedes has not confirmed U.S. availability. European sales begin in 2027, with no finalized pricing yet.
