Morgan’s Supersport Finally Hits U.S. Shores - But With a Smaller Engine

S. buyers. The car joins the eccentric Super 3 and the retro-styled Plus Four, giving enthusiasts another reason to celebrate. But before you rush to place an order, there’s a catch: the six-cylinder version isn’t crossing the Atlantic just yet. -spec Supersport is essentially a Plus Four with sportier intentions.
The Supersport is built on a lightweight all-aluminum chassis, with body panels hand-laid over an ash wood frame, a process that blends prewar craftsmanship with postwar aircraft construction. 0-liter inline-six, producing up to 400 horsepower. That engine helps the car, which weighs just over 2,500 pounds, deliver a power-to-weight ratio that silences any jokes about its 1930s-inspired looks.
0-liter four-cylinder, making 255 horsepower. That’s still plenty for a car that weighs about as much as a Mazda Miata with a hardtop, but it’s a noticeable step down.
On the bright side, the Supersport sharpens the Plus Four’s handling with a 14 percent quicker steering rack, firmer suspension, and more aerodynamic bodywork. An optional handling package adds adjustable dampers, a carbon-fiber hood, and lightweight 18- or 19-inch wheels. Buyers can also customize nearly everything, from a composite roof to a walnut interior finish.
The price? A surprisingly reasonable $119,995. Sure, a four-cylinder BMW Z4 costs half that, but the two cars aren’t really comparable. S. is still a win for Anglophiles.
