Minivan Comeback: Only One Model Is Missing the Boat

For years, the minivan was written off as a dying breed, crushed under the tireless popularity of SUVs. But something unexpected has happened: most minivan sales are actually climbing. Three out of the four remaining models are posting steady gains, and they're doing it despite some of them being well past their prime.
Here's a look at who's leading the pack and which one is getting left behind.
Chrysler still holds the top spot with the Pacifica, reporting 67,120 sales so far this year, a 16% jump from 2024. The second quarter alone saw 41,704 vehicles sold, an 81% surge. Kia isn't far behind, though. 4%, with year-to-date totals hitting 40,068. 5% increase, bringing its annual total to 55,252.
That leaves the Honda Odyssey as the odd one out. 4% at 42,846. The Kia Carnival is closing in fast.
What's driving this minivan revival? It seems Americans are rediscovering the practicality these vehicles offer, even as SUVs dominate the market. The Pacifica, despite being around since 2017, keeps selling thanks to a recent refresh. The Carnival, the newest player launched in 2022, is gaining ground quickly.
Meanwhile, the Odyssey's core design dates back to 2011, and it shows in the numbers. The minivan isn't dead yet, but for Honda, the warning lights are flashing.
