Mercedes Unveils Electric VLE with Up to 435 Miles of Range

EA platform. The model promises up to 435 miles of range on a single charge, along with ultra-fast charging capability that could ease long-distance travel concerns. Designed to accommodate as many as eight passengers, the VLE targets buyers who need space but don’t want to compromise on efficiency or charging speed.

EA architecture, short for Van Electric Architecture, represents Mercedes’ strategic shift toward purpose-built electric platforms for larger vehicles. By separating the VLE from adapted combustion-engine designs, engineers were able to optimize aerodynamics, battery placement, and interior volume.

Early reports suggest the vehicle will support charging speeds competitive with the latest dedicated EVs, though Mercedes has not yet released official kilowatt ratings or 10-to-80 percent charge times.

This launch comes as Mercedes continues to broaden its EV lineup, balancing high-performance models like the AMG CLA 45 and the electric GT 4-Door Coupe with more practical offerings. The VLE slots into a growing segment of large electric SUVs and vans, where rivals such as the Rivian R1S and upcoming electric BMW X7 are already competing.

For now, Mercedes is positioning the VLE as a versatile option for families and fleets, with production expected to begin in late 2026.
