Mercedes Refreshes Gas-Powered C-Class With Star-Filled Styling and Smarter Tech

Mercedes-Benz has spent months spotlighting its new electric C-Class, but the gas-powered version, still the model line's core seller, was starting to show its age next to its EV sibling. Now the automaker is giving the fifth-generation C-Class a substantial update, adding a star-heavy front end, upgraded interior features, and a more advanced computing system.

The most obvious change is the redesigned nose, which follows the brand's current look. Each headlight, now slightly larger, features its own three-pointed star, matching the electric C-Class. The grille between them is packed with dozens of chrome stars and LED lighting around its edge.

The rear taillights also adopt the star motif, a familiar sight on recent Mercedes models. Other exterior tweaks include new LED light projectors in the side sills, gloss black and chrome accents on the bumpers, two new 19-inch AMG wheel designs, and fresh paint options called Miami Silver Metallic and Moody Sky Grey Metallic.

A new AMG Line Plus package aims to give the car a sportier appearance.

Performance changes are modest. 0-liter four-cylinder now gets help from its integrated starter-generator at lower speeds, adding 23 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The engine itself produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet, with an overboost function that can deliver an extra 27 horsepower for about 20 seconds.

Mercedes has also revised the suspension's adjustable damping to reduce body movement, saying it balances handling with long-distance comfort. S. powertrains, though an AMG C53 is expected later.

OS operating system. Drive function includes lane keeping and radar-guided cruise control. An optional Parking Assist 360 adds a surround-view display and a reverse maneuvering aid.

Inside, the cabin looks similar to before, but the tech has been upgraded. 9-inch vertical infotainment screen now run on the latest MBUX system, which includes AI features like ChatGPT. A notable option is the 15-speaker, 710-watt Burmester 3D Surround Sound system with Dolby Atmos.

Ambient lighting offers 64 colors across various styles. The car also gains MBUX Surround Navigation and an optional Augmented Reality Head-up Display, borrowed from the S-Class and EQS. New upholstery options include Beech Brown and Cherry Red, along with three new trim choices.

The updated gas-powered C-Class is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027.
