Mercedes Glove Box Scratch? Here’s What We Learned (and a Tip for Owners)

Mercedes Glove Box Scratch? Here’s What We Learned (and a Tip for Owners)

If you own a newer Mercedes-Benz—or any luxury car with a leather-trimmed interior—you know how easily a stray keychain or backpack zipper can leave a mark. One local owner recently faced a scratched glove box and shared a repair story that’s worth passing along. While this specific fix applies to the W465 model, the lesson is universal: small interior damage doesn’t always mean a costly replacement.

The owner’s options ranged from a $1,200 dealer part (backordered) to a $380 leather replacement by a specialist. Not a bad savings, but it does require removing the glove box yourself. The steps are straightforward: open the glove box, remove contents, and unscrew four Torx T20 screws (two at the top near the interior light, two in the lower corners).

The tricky part? The glove box will feel loose but won’t come out until you pop out the top interior light from the right side to release a hidden clip. Then disconnect the light harness and the wire at the back.

Reassembly is just as precise: align the two horizontal wedges at the top rear and the two circular dots at the front. Clip the interior light to the harness before seating the box, then pop it in and reinstall the screws.

For our customers with Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Volvo, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, or Honda vehicles (including hybrids), we see this kind of interior wear often. If you’re dealing with a scratch, a loose trim, or a recall-related concern, bring it by Boca Auto Care. We’ve been family-run since 1989, and we’ll inspect it without the dealer markup.
