Mercedes-AMG GT R CPO Buyer Raises Concerns Over Certification Process

A Mercedes-AMG GT R owner is sharing a warning after purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle that they say did not meet expected standards. The buyer bought the car, which had about 10,000 miles, from Fletcher Jones Motorcars, partly because it was advertised as Mercedes-Benz certified.
Shortly after delivery, the owner noticed a vibration when braking. A service department found warped front rotors and replaced them along with the brake pads. However, the owner was then told all four tires needed replacement. The tires were original, with visible sidewall cracking on the front and rear tires manufactured in 2020.
Later, conflicting advice suggested the tires were safe.
Following a recommendation from Mercedes-Benz, the owner sought a second opinion at another dealership in Laguna Niguel. That inspection concluded all four tires needed to be replaced. The owner also saved a screenshot of CPO guidelines from the original listing, which reportedly addressed tire age and condition criteria.
Additional issues included scuff marks and blemishes on the matte paint finish. The owner was initially told these could be polished out, but later learned matte finishes require special care. The vehicle remained at the dealership for over two weeks, with pickup on July 29.
The owner says the core problem is trust in the CPO label. They argue that paying a premium for certification should mean the vehicle meets manufacturer standards. They have offered to return the car for a full refund, citing lost confidence.
The owner advises other AMG buyers to conduct their own independent inspection, check tires and brakes carefully, and verify CPO results rather than assuming everything has been thoroughly reviewed. They have documentation, photos, and communications and plan to update the post if a resolution is reached.
