Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe: A Luxurious Beast That Refuses to Pick a Side

Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe: A Luxurious Beast That Refuses to Pick a Side

The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe is a rare breed: a sports car that delivers both spine-tingling performance and the kind of plush interior you expect from a luxury sedan. Most cars force you to choose between track-day thrills and everyday comfort. This one says you can have both.

With options ranging from the 416-horsepower GT43 to the monstrous 805-hp GT63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid, there’s a version for almost every speed appetite. The twin-turbo V-8 models, in particular, deliver a punch that puts rivals like the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin Vantage on notice.

But the GT Coupe isn’t perfect. The price tag will make your wallet wince, and the infotainment system’s menu-heavy interface can test your patience. The rear seats? They’re a joke. Mercedes itself says they’re only suitable for passengers under five feet tall. If you need to haul people regularly, the four-door GT is a smarter bet.

9-inch touchscreen comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the optional Burmester sound system is a treat for the ears.

0-liter twin-turbo V-8 good for 469 to 603 horsepower, while the top-tier hybrid cranks out a staggering 805 horses. The nine-speed automatic transmission swaps a traditional torque converter for a clutch, sharpening throttle response. On the track, the GT63 Pro’s upgraded cooling system keeps things cool under pressure.

All-wheel-drive versions can send 100% of power to the rear wheels, and rear-wheel steering helps the car feel nimble. 4 seconds, tied with a Porsche 911 GT3.

Fuel economy isn’t the GT’s strong suit: expect 14 mpg city in V-8 models, though the GT43 manages 19 mpg city. The hybrid version offers a token 1 mile of electric range. Inside, the cabin is surprisingly roomy up front, with supportive sport seats and plenty of leather options.

8 cubic feet. Mercedes backs the GT with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty, but unlike its Porsche rival, there’s no complimentary maintenance plan. For those who can stomach the cost and the cramped back seat, the AMG GT Coupe remains a compelling blend of luxury and raw power.
