Mazda Updates Its Virtual Rotary Racer with New Evo Version

Mazda Updates Its Virtual Rotary Racer with New Evo Version

Mazda has unveiled an updated version of its RX-Vision GT3 concept car, a digital racer created for the Gran Turismo video game series. The new model, called the RX-Vision GT3 Evo, comes eleven years after the original RX-Vision Concept was first shown, and six years after the virtual GT3 variant appeared in the game.

The Evo is an evolution rather than a revolution, based on the teaser video and dark close-ups Mazda provided. The front features new LED auxiliary lights in the lower air intakes, and the main grille opening appears to extend down to the splitter. The bumper edges now have quick disconnects for easy removal, along with new side plates and canards, suggesting improved aerodynamics and a more aggressive look.

Side skirts have been updated with tall side plates, matching the front splitter's theme. The rear shows a new diffuser and wing, with the diffuser looking more prominent than before, and a rear rain light is nestled inside. More exposed carbon fiber appears around the exterior, including on the front fender vents and the bar across the taillights.

Mazda hasn't released specifications for the Evo, but the standard RX-Vision GT3 serves as a baseline. 6-liter naturally-aspirated four-rotor engine producing 562 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. It's built to match real-world GT3 class cars and fits into the equivalent Group 3 class in Gran Turismo.

Most specs are likely to remain similar for the Evo.

The car will be available to drive in the game by the end of the year. Mazda hasn't indicated any plans for a production version of the RX-Vision Concept, and the company has moved on to other concept designs. The update appears to be a low-cost way to keep enthusiasts interested, especially since the car represents Mazda's team in the Gran Turismo World Series, keeping it looking current rather than outdated.
