Lucid Motors Hires Restructuring Experts - Should We Worry?

Last week, the rumor mill in the auto industry went into overdrive. Word got out that Lucid Motors, the California-based electric vehicle maker, had brought on AlixPartners, a financial consulting firm often associated with corporate turnarounds and bankruptcy prep. Naturally, people started asking if the luxury EV brand was in trouble.
Lucid was quick to push back. Company officials flatly denied any bankruptcy talk, pointing out that AlixPartners does a lot more than just handle Chapter 11 filings. They help companies with operational efficiency, supply chain fixes, and strategic growth. Still, the optics aren’t great for a startup that’s been burning through cash while trying to ramp up production of its Air sedan.
The bigger question is whether Lucid can survive the EV shakeout. With deep-pocketed rivals like Tesla and legacy automakers flooding the market, Lucid needs to prove it can scale without running out of runway. Hiring AlixPartners might just be a smart move to tighten the belt, or it could be the first sign of a long, hard road ahead.
Either way, the industry is watching closely.
