Lexus RX350h Proves Luxury and Reliability Can Coexist

When Americans shop for a new car, reliability often tops the list. With the cost of living climbing, nobody wants to sink a fortune into repairs just to keep their vehicle on the road. That’s why many buyers turn to Japanese brands, known for building machines that last. But here’s the twist: the most dependable option might not be a budget-friendly Honda or Toyota, it could be a luxury Lexus.

The 2024 Lexus RX350h earned an 85 out of 100 from JD Power for quality and reliability, beating both the Honda CR-V Hybrid (84) and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (80). Underneath its upscale cabin and extra features, the RX shares its mechanical bones with the Toyota, meaning owners avoid the sky-high repair bills tied to European luxury brands.

According to CarEdge, the RX350h costs about $7,840 to maintain over 10 years, more than $6,500 less than the average SUV. It also has just a 21% chance of a major problem over that span, far better than the segment average.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports only three recalls and a single complaint for the 2024 RX, despite roughly 34,000 units sold. Compare that to the Honda CR-V Hybrid, which has 83 complaints, many tied to engine and fuel system issues, and recalls for its fuel pump and steering system.

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, while cheaper by about $20,000, scored lower on reliability and carries a slightly higher predicted maintenance bill over a decade. All three SUVs depreciate at roughly the same rate, but the Lexus loses more in raw dollars due to its higher starting price.

Still, for drivers who value peace of mind and fewer trips to the shop, the RX350h makes a strong case that luxury and dependability don’t have to be opposites.
