Lexus RC F: A Look Back at a Decade of the V8 Coupe

Lexus RC F: A Look Back at a Decade of the V8 Coupe

The Lexus RC F, often overlooked, stayed true to its roots during its ten-year run. While many rivals downsized or added turbos, the RC F kept a naturally aspirated V8 mounted up front, sending power to the rear wheels. It wasn't a car that changed drastically year to year, but the focus was on refinement and performance, with several special editions released along the way.

The RC F was refreshed for the 2020 model year, gaining 5 more horsepower for a total of 472 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. Updates included a new airbox, quicker throttle response, and a higher final drive ratio. Weight reduction was a priority, with changes to the intake manifold, AC compressor, and bodywork, plus hollow half shafts.

Stiffer bushings improved steering response, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires were added. 3-inch infotainment screen was offered from 2023.

The RC F was discontinued after the 2025 model year, with the Final Edition celebrating its end. It featured extensive carbon fiber, including the roof and rear diffuser, plus a new rear differential for better response. Red brake calipers, four new paint options, and a numbered plaque set it apart.

The Fuji Speedway Edition, offered for 2021 and 2022, paid homage to the track where the RC F was born. It came with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, a titanium exhaust, and a carbon-fiber aero package, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 3.96 seconds. Only 60 examples were made for 2021 and 50 for 2022.

The Track Edition, introduced in 2020, was 176 lbs lighter than the base car, with a curb weight of 3,781 lbs. It featured Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, BBS forged wheels, a carbon fiber hood and roof, and Hitachi shock absorbers. 2 seconds for the standard RC F.

From 2015 to 2019, the RC F remained consistent, with minor interior and exterior tweaks. 0-liter V8 producing 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. 2 seconds with launch control and had a top speed of 168 mph. Features included adaptive variable suspension, Brembo brakes, and 19-inch BBS wheels.

A Torsen limited-slip differential was standard, with an optional torque-vectoring unit. The 10th Anniversary Edition, limited to 240 units in the US, celebrated ten years of Lexus F.
