Land Rover Airbag Glitch Triggers Recall for Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover Models

Land Rover Airbag Glitch Triggers Recall for Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover Models

Land Rover has issued a recall covering certain Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover vehicles after discovering a potential airbag malfunction. The issue, which affects a limited number of models, could prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying properly in a crash. The recall targets vehicles where a wiring harness may have been incorrectly routed, interfering with the airbag system's sensors.

According to documents filed with federal safety regulators, the problem stems from a manufacturing error that can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate and, in some cases, disable the passenger-side airbag entirely. Land Rover says it became aware of the issue after receiving reports from dealerships and customer complaints.

No injuries or accidents have been linked to the defect so far, but the company is moving swiftly to address the risk.

Owners of affected vehicles, which include certain 2020-2024 Defenders, 2021-2024 Discovery models, and 2020-2024 Range Rovers, will be notified by mail starting next month. Dealers will inspect and repair the wiring harness at no cost. If you own one of these models and haven't received a notice, you can check your vehicle identification number on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website or contact your local Land Rover dealer for more details.
