Lamborghini Revives the Urus Performante as a Hybrid Beast with 801 Horsepower

Lamborghini’s Urus Performante is back after a brief hiatus, and this time it’s packing a plug-in hybrid punch. The hardcore SUV was discontinued two years ago when the SE hybrid arrived, but now it returns as the Urus SE Performante—more powerful, lighter, and equipped with a new air suspension system that promises sharper handling.

0-liter twin-turbo V8 cranks out 620 horsepower, and an electric motor adds 189 more, bringing the total to 801 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. That’s 144 more horsepower and 111 more pound-feet than the previous Performante. 3 seconds—a tenth quicker than the standard SE—and tops out at 193 mph.

But Lamborghini didn’t stop at raw power; nearly every driving component has been reworked. The transmission shifts faster, the center differential can deliver oversteer on demand, and a new titanium Akrapovič exhaust saves 22 pounds while producing a more aggressive roar.

Instead of the metal coil springs used on the old Performante, the SE version gets a new dual-chamber air suspension called Aura. Lamborghini says it offers a wider range between comfort and sport, cuts vibration by 25 percent, and handles bumps better than the single-chamber system.

A new Rally mode uses a 6D sensor and variable brake controller to improve traction on dirt and rough roads, with braking power up 10 percent and response times 12 percent faster. Carbon fiber parts—hood, roof, wheel arches, side skirts, and rear diffuser—shave about 70 pounds off the SE, though the SUV still tips the scales at 5,440 pounds.

The aero package generates 23 percent more downforce than the SE and 16 percent more than the old Performante. New 23-inch wheels, a taller carbon spoiler, and a larger diffuser set the SE Performante apart visually. Lamborghini hasn’t announced pricing or a delivery date, but for buyers eager to get behind the wheel, the wait may be the bigger concern.
