Kia’s 2024 Seat Fix for the Telluride? It’s Being Recalled, Too

Kia thought it had solved a dangerous problem with the Telluride’s front seats, which were linked to a fire risk. After rolling out a repair in 2024 to address the issue, the automaker now finds itself issuing a second recall, this time for the fix itself. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the revised parts may still fail, potentially leading to overheating and fire.
The original recall, announced in 2023, covered roughly 250,000 Telluride SUVs from model years 2020 through 2023. The problem: a motor inside the power-adjustable seat could jam, causing excessive electrical current and, in some cases, smoke or flames. Dealers installed a new seat-motor bracket to prevent the issue.
But recent reports indicate the replacement brackets can also malfunction, prompting Kia to act again.
Kia has not yet released a specific number of vehicles affected by the new recall, but it includes Tellurides that already received the earlier repair. Owners will be notified by mail starting next month, and dealers will install an upgraded bracket free of charge. In the meantime, Kia advises drivers to park outdoors and away from structures if they notice any seat-related smells or smoke.
The company says no injuries or crashes have been linked to the latest issue.
