Kia Telluride Owners Warned: Park Outside as Seat Fire Risk Persists Despite Earlier Fix

Kia is once again urging owners of its popular Telluride SUV to park outdoors, following a troubling discovery that a 2024 recall repair failed to fully eliminate a fire risk linked to the vehicle's power seats. The issue centers on a potential short circuit in the seat adjuster motor, which can overheat even when the vehicle is off, posing a fire hazard.

The original recall, issued last year, aimed to address the problem by installing a new fuse and wiring harness. However, recent investigations revealed that the fix was insufficient, and the underlying defect can still cause fires. Kia has since announced a second recall, covering over 220,000 Telluride models from 2020 through 2024, with a more comprehensive repair still under development.

In the meantime, owners are advised to park their SUVs outside and away from structures, such as garages or carports, until the permanent solution is available. Kia says it will notify affected customers when the new parts and repair procedures are ready, with no cost for the service.

The automaker has also stressed that drivers should avoid using the power seat adjustment until the fix is applied, as the risk remains active.

This latest recall serves as a stark reminder that even properly executed repairs can sometimes fall short. For Telluride owners, the safest course of action is to follow Kia's guidance closely and stay alert for updates. Boca Auto Care recommends checking your vehicle's VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website to confirm if your Telluride is included in this recall and to schedule a free inspection with your local dealer as soon as the new remedy is announced.
