Kia Telluride Owners Urged to Park Outside Amid Fire Recall

Kia Telluride Owners Urged to Park Outside Amid Fire Recall

Consumer Reports is advising owners of recalled Kia Telluride SUVs to park them outdoors until a dangerous fire issue is fully resolved. The warning comes after reports of engine compartment fires, even in vehicles that were turned off. Kia has issued a recall affecting nearly 200,000 Telluride models from 2020 through 2024, and the fix is still in development.

The problem stems from a potential short circuit in the front power seat motor, which can overheat and cause a fire. While Kia has not reported any crashes or injuries related to this defect, the risk is serious enough that Consumer Reports recommends keeping the SUV away from garages, carports, or any structure that could catch fire.

Owners should also avoid parking near other vehicles.

Kia says it will notify owners when parts become available and will perform the repair free of charge. In the meantime, drivers are urged to watch for warning signs like smoke or burning smells from the front seats. If you own a recalled Telluride, check your VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website or contact your local dealer for updates.

Until the fix arrives, the safest spot for your SUV is outside.
