Kia Telluride Owners Join the 'Park Outside' Club as Fire Risk Prompts Recall

Kia Telluride Owners Join the 'Park Outside' Club as Fire Risk Prompts Recall

Kia has issued a recall for nearly 220,000 Telluride SUVs from model years 2020 through 2024, warning owners to park them outdoors and away from structures due to a risk of engine compartment fires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the issue stems from a potential short circuit in the vehicle's front slide door motor, which can overheat even when the car is off.

While no crashes or injuries have been reported, Kia has documented at least 56 thermal incidents, including localized melting and smoke. The fix involves replacing the motor and a fuse, but parts won't be available until late May. In the meantime, owners are urged to keep their Tellurides parked outside and not to charge them inside a garage.

This recall follows a similar warning for the Hyundai Palisade, which shares the same platform and parts. Kia will notify owners starting April 18, and dealers will install a protective bracket and new fuse as an interim measure. gov and follow the parking advice until repairs are made.
