Kia Tells 462,000 Telluride Owners: Park Outside Due to Fire Danger

Kia has issued a safety advisory affecting over 462,000 Telluride SUVs, warning owners that a potential electrical issue could cause a fire, even with the vehicle turned off. The automaker is urging drivers to park their cars outdoors and away from structures until a fix is available.
The recall covers model years 2020 through 2024, and comes after reports of at least one fire and six localized melting incidents.
The problem centers on the front power seat slide motor. According to Kia, debris or moisture can get into the motor, causing a short circuit. That electrical fault can generate enough heat to start a fire, even when the SUV is parked and unattended. Until dealers can install a new fuse and wiring guide, the company recommends parking outside and not near buildings or garages.
Owners will be notified starting late February.
This is the second major fire-related recall for the Telluride in recent years. In 2023, Kia recalled nearly 200,000 models for a trailer hitch issue that could also cause fires. For local owners, Boca Auto Care recommends staying current with recall notices and bringing your vehicle in for any safety repairs as soon as parts become available.
In the meantime, keep that Telluride in the driveway, not the garage.
