Kia K5 Spied Testing in Desert Heat, Signaling Another Refresh

Kia's midsize sedan isn't going anywhere. Spy photographers recently caught a refreshed Kia K5 undergoing testing in the southwestern U.S., specifically in Arizona and Nevada, where it's being pushed through punishing summer desert temperatures to ensure nothing melts or becomes unusable in extreme heat.
This second facelift indicates the K5 will stick around for at least a few more years, giving sedan buyers another option as rivals exit the segment. The K5 first went on sale in the U.S. in 2020, replacing the Optima name after 20 years. It was already updated for model year 2025 with new lights and a new base engine.
This time, the changes appear more extensive. The front bumper is all-new, with a reshaped grille and a more prominent splitter. The headlights are brand-new. At the back, the spoiler is now black plastic instead of painted, the license plate surround has been reworked, and the lighting signature is new.
The prototype also shows new front fenders with a vent along the trailing edge, plus new side skirts and lower body garnish. The wheel and tire package matches the current GT-Line and EX models, so the vent may be cosmetic rather than a sign of a more aggressive GT version.
Inside, the test car reveals a new seat cover design and different door panels. The dashboard has lost its full-width trim panel, replaced by a large flat surface, hinting at new screens and climate controls, likely the Hyundai Group's Pleos system with a single large display.
The 2025 Kia K5 debuted in 2024. If Kia follows its usual product cycle, this updated version could arrive next year as a 2028 model.
