Kia Issues Massive Recall for Nearly 463,000 Telluride SUVs Over Fire Risk

Kia is recalling close to 463,000 Telluride SUVs due to a defect that could cause a fire, even when the vehicle is turned off and parked. The recall covers certain 2020-2024 model year Tellurides, and the problem centers on a front seat motor that may overheat.
According to documents filed with federal safety regulators, the issue involves a power seat slide motor that can short-circuit and catch fire, whether the SUV is in motion or sitting idle. Kia says it has received reports of at least six thermal incidents, but no crashes, injuries, or deaths have been tied to the defect so far.
Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until repairs are completed.
The fix is straightforward: dealers will install a new fuse and a revised wiring harness at no cost to owners. Kia will begin notifying affected customers by mail starting July 30. In the meantime, drivers can check if their Telluride is included by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website or calling Kia's customer service line.
This recall marks the latest in a string of fire-related safety actions across the auto industry, underscoring the importance of staying current with manufacturer alerts.
