Kia Issues Massive Recall for 462,000 Telluride SUVs Due to Engine Fire Hazard

Kia has announced a recall affecting over 462,000 Telluride SUVs in the United States, citing a potential fire risk tied to the vehicles' front power seat motor. The automaker is urging owners of 2020 through 2024 model year Tellurides to take immediate action after discovering that a manufacturing defect could cause the seat motor to overheat and ignite.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem stems from a loose or missing fastener in the seat assembly. This can allow the seat's sliding mechanism to jam, which in turn forces the motor to draw excessive current and overheat.

While no injuries or crashes have been reported so far, Kia has identified several instances of melting and smoke in affected vehicles.

Kia plans to notify owners starting in late August and will replace the seat motor brackets and add a protective fuse at no charge. In the meantime, drivers are advised to park their Tellurides outside and away from structures until repairs are complete.
