Kia Issues Massive Recall for 450,000+ Older Telluride SUVs Over Fire Risk

Kia Issues Massive Recall for 450,000+ Older Telluride SUVs Over Fire Risk

Kia is pulling more than 450,000 of its previous-generation Telluride SUVs back to dealerships due to a potential engine fire hazard. The recall covers models from 2020 through 2024, and the issue stems from a manufacturing flaw in the front power seat motor. If the seat slides forward or backward and the motor gets jammed, it can overheat and catch fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported at least one fire and one thermal incident linked to the defect, though no injuries or crashes have been confirmed so far. Owners of affected vehicles will get a free fix at no cost: dealers will install a reinforced bracket on the seat motor and, if necessary, replace the seat manual lever.

Kia is also reimbursing owners who already paid for repairs related to this problem.

This is a major recall for one of Kia's most popular models, the Telluride, which has been a strong seller since its launch. The company says it will notify owners by mail starting late May, but concerned drivers can also check their vehicle's status online using the NHTSA recall database or by contacting Kia customer service.

If you own a 2020-2024 Telluride, it's worth checking your VIN as soon as possible to avoid any potential safety risk.
