Jeep Cherokee's Return Is Short-Lived as Stellantis Plans 2029 Successor

The sixth-generation Jeep Cherokee just hit the market for the 2026 model year, ending a gap that followed the previous generation's run from 2014 to 2023. But according to Automotive News, Stellantis is already mapping out a replacement due in 2029. That future model will be built at the company's Belvidere Assembly plant in Illinois, a shift from the current SUV's production in Mexico, and it will ride on the newer STLA One architecture.

In other automotive news, Porsche's North America CEO Timo Resch told Road & Track that the brand's manual transmission and hybrid powertrain aren't currently compatible, but he wouldn't rule out engineers finding a solution down the line. Lamborghini, meanwhile, is taking a different stance.

CEO Stephan Winklemann said at Monterey over the weekend that manuals are mostly for collectibles, and the company has no plans to offer a three-pedal model, per CarBuzz.

Toyota has issued a recall for its new bZ Woodland electric SUV/wagon over a risk of an electrical short that could disable electronic stability control and trigger the brake lights even when the brakes aren't pressed, as reported by Autoblog.

At a charity auction in Monterey, a Ferrari Luce "Chassis 0" with a bespoke white paint job sold for $40 million, according to Reuters.

Weekend race results: Kayden Honeycutt won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Richmond for Tricon Garage, Joey Logano took the NASCAR Cup Series at Richmond for Team Penske, and Marcus Ericsson won the IndyCar race at Ontario for Andretti Global.
