Jeep Brings Back Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland for 2027

Jeep Brings Back Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland for 2027

Earlier this year, Jeep quietly dropped the Trailhawk and Overland trims from the Grand Cherokee lineup, leaving off-road enthusiasts without a proper 4x4 option. Now, the brand is reversing course. Both models are set to return for the 2027 model year, with production slated to begin this fall.

“The Grand Cherokee is a cornerstone of the Jeep brand – one of the most recognized and trusted SUVs worldwide,” said Jeep brand CEO Bob Broderdorf in an official announcement. “The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk uniquely embodies the go-anywhere, do-anything ethos of this brand.”

The Overland, he added, “serves a unique purpose: to combine legitimate off-road capability with the premium, refined features it’s been known for since its introduction 25 years ago.”

Jeep’s announcement did not detail any major changes for 2027, which makes sense given the 2026 model was just refreshed. The Overland and Trailhawk were sidelined because they were previously available only with the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain, which was discontinued. 0-liter Hurricane-4, a company spokesperson confirmed that the Pentastar V6 remains available in the base Laredo and Laredo X trims for both the standard Grand Cherokee and the three-row Grand Cherokee L.

Moving up to Laredo Altitude or higher, however, switches to the Hurricane-4.

For off-road capability, the Overland returns with a two-speed transfer case, air suspension with a max-clearance setting, hill descent control, and semi-active dampers. The Trailhawk adds a rear electronic limited-slip differential, chunkier tires, a TrailCam with a rear washer, and six steel skid plates.

Pricing details are expected closer to when vehicles hit showrooms later this year.
