Ignoring Early Car Warnings Can Turn Small Issues Into Costly Repairs

A technical specialist has warned that most major car breakdowns don't happen without warning, vehicles typically signal trouble well in advance, but drivers often overlook these signs or delay repairs to save money, turning minor problems into expensive overhauls.
Konstantin Ershov, a technical expert at parts distributor Rossko, said one of the most common owner mistakes is postponing oil changes. Drivers tend to follow the maximum service interval without accounting for traffic jams, short trips, or weather conditions. That neglect can damage timing components, the turbocharger, bearings, and the cylinder-piston group.
Ershov also pointed out that many motorists ignore a lit Check Engine light, unusual knocking sounds, or vibrations. Others drive with a nearly empty tank, which shortens the fuel pump's lifespan, or use questionable fuel. Forgetting to warm up the engine or failing to check the cooling system can lead to overheating.
The expert stressed that saving money on critical parts of unknown origin is a serious mistake, especially brake pads and discs, steering and suspension components, and oils or fluids. He concluded that this isn't just about reducing the car's service life, it's a matter of safety.
