Hyundai’s Ioniq 3 Looks Like a Bargain EV - But Don’t Expect It in the U.S.

Hyundai has quietly unveiled a compact electric crossover that could give budget-friendly EVs a serious run for their money. The Ioniq 3, as it’s called, offers over 300 miles of range on the more generous WLTP cycle and arrives with the same playful, futuristic styling that’s made the Ioniq lineup a hit overseas.
At a starting price around $30,000, it looks like exactly the kind of affordable, long-range EV that American buyers have been begging for.
So here’s the catch: the Ioniq 3 is not coming to the United States. At least not anytime soon. Hyundai has confirmed that the model is being built specifically for European and select Asian markets, where smaller, more efficient EVs are in higher demand. S. shoppers are left watching from the sidelines as a compelling alternative to the Chevy Bolt, one with more charm and comparable range, stays parked across the Atlantic.
It’s a frustrating reminder that automakers still treat the American market differently when it comes to EV strategy. While Hyundai continues to roll out larger, pricier models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 here, the entry-level segment remains underserved. For now, anyone hoping for a sub-$35,000 Hyundai EV with real range will have to keep waiting, or start looking at used options.
