Hyundai Recalls 47,000 Kona SUVs Over Seat Belt Problem, NHTSA Says

Hyundai Recalls 47,000 Kona SUVs Over Seat Belt Problem, NHTSA Says

S. because of a potential seat belt failure, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The issue involves a manufacturing defect that could cause the front seat belt pretensioner to malfunction during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The recall affects certain 2024 and 2025 model year Kona and Kona Electric SUVs.

The problem stems from a faulty component in the seat belt assembly that may not properly lock in an accident. NHTSA reports that if the pretensioner fails, the belt could loosen unexpectedly, reducing its ability to protect the driver or front passenger. Hyundai has not reported any crashes or injuries linked to the defect, but the company is acting proactively to fix the issue before anyone gets hurt.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting in late January 2025. Hyundai dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the seat belt assembly free of charge. Kona drivers who have questions can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151 or check NHTSA’s recall website with the campaign number 24V-890.

The recall underscores the importance of staying current on vehicle safety notices, especially for newer models.
