Hyundai Recalls 47,000 Kona and Kona Electric SUVs Over Faulty Rear Seatbelt

Hyundai Recalls 47,000 Kona and Kona Electric SUVs Over Faulty Rear Seatbelt

S. after discovering a defect in the rear center seatbelt. The problem, reported by Car and Driver, involves the seatbelt assembly in the middle back seat, which may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash. This increases the risk of injury and violates federal safety standards.

The recall covers certain 2024 and 2025 model year Konas, including the all-electric versions, built before November 2024. Hyundai traced the issue to a manufacturing error that can cause the seatbelt’s retractor to lock up or fail to engage correctly. Owners will be notified starting in late February, and dealers will inspect and replace the rear center seatbelt assembly free of charge.

If you own one of these vehicles, you can check your VIN on Hyundai’s recall website or call their customer service line. The company says no crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect so far. Meanwhile, Kona drivers should keep an eye out for the official recall letter, which will include instructions for scheduling a repair appointment.

It’s a straightforward fix, but one that’s worth taking seriously for the safety of everyone in the back seat.
