Hyundai Issues Recall for Nearly 48,000 Vehicles - Which Models Are Affected

, citing a potential safety issue that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall, which was filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), targets specific models from recent model years. Owners are urged to check whether their vehicle is included.
The problem centers on a manufacturing defect in the engine control unit (ECU) software. According to Hyundai, the software may incorrectly detect a misfire, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving. This sudden loss of power, even at low speeds, could lead to an accident.
No injuries or crashes have been reported so far, but the company is moving quickly to address the issue.
The recall covers the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, and the 2024 Hyundai Elantra, along with the 2024 Kona and the 2024 Tucson. Hyundai says it will notify affected owners by mail starting in late January 2025. Dealers will update the ECU software free of charge.
For more details, owners can visit the NHTSA website or contact Hyundai customer service directly.
