Hyundai Issues Recall for 66,000 Kona SUVs in Canada and U.S. Due to Seatbelt Issue

Hyundai Issues Recall for 66,000 Kona SUVs in Canada and U.S. Due to Seatbelt Issue

Hyundai has announced a recall affecting approximately 66,000 Kona SUVs across Canada and the United States, citing a potential seatbelt defect that could compromise passenger safety. The recall covers the gas-powered 2026 Hyundai Kona, as well as the 2025 and 2026 Kona EV models.

Owners are urged to check their vehicle’s status and schedule a free repair at an authorized dealership.

The issue stems from a manufacturing flaw that may cause the front seatbelt pretensioners to fail during a collision, increasing the risk of injury. Hyundai says no crashes or injuries have been reported so far, but the company is acting proactively. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the affected seatbelt assemblies at no cost to owners.

Notifications are expected to begin arriving by mail in late February.
