Honda Recalls 325,000 Odyssey Vans for Faulty Rearview Cameras

Honda is recalling roughly 325,000 Odyssey minivans due to a problem that can cause the rearview camera display to go dark while the vehicle is in reverse. The issue affects certain models from 2018 through 2023, and the company says the camera screen may remain blank or fail to show an image, increasing the risk of a backup collision.
According to documents filed with federal safety regulators, the trouble stems from a software glitch in the audio control unit. When the vehicle is started, the system may not properly initialize the rearview camera feed, leaving drivers without a clear view behind them. Honda has received more than 15,000 warranty claims related to the defect but says it has no reports of crashes or injuries tied to the problem.
Owners will be notified by mail starting in April, and dealers will update the software at no charge. For now, Honda advises drivers to check their surroundings manually before backing up. The recall covers Odyssey vans sold in the United States, and owners can check their vehicle's status by visiting Honda's recall website or calling the automaker's customer service line.
