Honda Opens Its Vault: Sebring-Winning Acura Prototype Now for Sale

Honda Racing Corporation USA is launching a new Heritage Racing Program that will restore historic Honda and Acura race cars and sell them to private owners. The first machine up for grabs is the No. 26 XM Satellite Radio Andretti Green Racing Acura ARX-01a, a V8-powered prototype that won the LMP2 class at the 2007 12 Hours of Sebring in its competition debut, driven by Dario Franchitti, Bryan Herta, and Tony Kanaan.
HRC will completely tear down and rebuild each car using new or reconditioned parts, with access to original technical documents and input from the original development team. Engines get rebuilt at HRC's Santa Clarita headquarters, and electronics are modernized for safety while preserving the original driving feel.
Every car is track-tested before delivery, and HRC can provide trackside support and help owners enter historic racing events.
The Acura will be displayed at The Quail during Monterey Car Week on August 14, but no price has been announced. HRC has already restored four Acura ARX-05 DPi racers and the Le Mans class-winning Strakka Racing ARX-01c, and helped Zak Brown restore Gil de Ferran's 2001 Honda-powered Reynard.
Also available is the Acura NSX GT3 Chassis No. 5 with its Lady Liberty livery, described as the winningest NSX GT3 ever. That program earned 38 class wins, two manufacturers' titles, five drivers' championships, and four teams' championships from 2017 to 2023. More than 20 historic Honda and Acura machines will appear during Monterey Car Week, spanning F1, IndyCar, IMSA, SCCA, Baja, MotoGP, Dakar, and the Isle of Man TT.
For those without race-car budgets, HRC is selling components from the V10 used in Gerhard Berger's McLaren at the 1990 German Grand Prix, each in a display case with a certificate of authenticity, plus jewelry made from smaller parts and scale models of the 1965 Mexican GP-winning RA272.
