Honda May Finally Bring Hybrid Power to Its Small SUVs

Honda, a brand long tied to hybrid technology, is reportedly considering hybrid versions of its smaller SUVs, the HR-V and Acura ADX. The company recently shifted focus toward hybrids after dropping planned EVs, and now its product planning chief, Gary Robinson, has hinted that these models could be next.
" The HR-V and ADX share platforms with the Civic and Integra, making it relatively easy to adapt the existing hybrid powertrain. However, Robinson flagged cost as a concern, noting Honda buyers are price-conscious. The HR-V starts at $26,600, and a hybrid version could land around $31,000, $32,000, slightly above a base CR-V.
Competitors in the subcompact segment are already priced similarly: the Subaru Crosstrek hybrid starts at $33,995, the Toyota Corolla Cross at $29,795, and the Kia Niro just under $28,000. Only three hybrids currently exist in this class, so Honda could enter a niche with limited competition.
For Acura, the field is even more open. While nothing is confirmed, the possibility of these hybrids reaching production remains open, and it could give Honda a strong rival to the Mazda CX-30 with minimal effort.
