Honda Launches Heritage Racing Program to Sell and Restore Iconic Race Cars

Honda is giving enthusiasts a chance to own, restore, and even track pieces of its motorsport history through a new initiative called the HRC Heritage Racing Program. The program offers access to iconic racers from Formula 1, Le Mans, Sebring, and Daytona, including both production-based GT cars and purpose-built prototypes.

The first car to be offered is the Sebring-winning #26 XM Satellite Radio AGR Acura ARX-01a, which will debut at The Quail on August 14 to kick off 2026 Monterey Car Week. S. and won the LMP2 class at the 2007 Sebring 12 Hours with drivers Dario Franchitti, Bryan Herta, and Tony Kanaan.

The program also includes restoration services for Honda and Acura race cars, whether owned by the company or individuals. Examples include the Strakka Racing Acura ARX-01c, which won its Le Mans LMP2 class in 2010, the Chassis No. 5 Acura NSX GT3, and a 2001 Team Penske CART IndyCar.

Restorations rely on original homologation documents, engineer notes, photographs, and HRC's technical archives. Each car is fully disassembled, rebuilt with new and reconditioned parts, modernized electronics, and rebuilt engines. After restoration, every car is track-tested, and HRC engineers remain available to support owners who want to race.

Pricing and client selection details have not been announced. David Salters, president of HRC US, said the program is about keeping these cars doing what they were born to do, race, and that HRC is uniquely equipped to restore them authentically for historic competition.
