Honda Ditches Its Only EV, Shifts Focus to Hybrids

S. market, marking a sudden retreat from the EV race. The automaker confirmed the model is being discontinued, leaving its American lineup without a single production EV for the foreseeable future. The move comes as Honda pivots hard back toward hybrid technology, signaling a major strategy shift.

Industry watchers say the decision reflects a broader reality: EV demand has cooled, and Honda, like several legacy automakers, is struggling to make battery-powered cars profitable at scale. The Prologue, which launched to modest sales, faced stiff competition from Tesla and newer entries from Hyundai and Kia.

The company hasn't announced a replacement EV, but insiders hint that a next-generation electric model could arrive later this decade. For now. S. showrooms will lean heavily on the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid to meet tightening fuel-economy standards. Whether this hybrid-first gamble pays off remains to be seen, but for the moment.

Honda is out of the EV game entirely.
