GMC Marks Hummer’s 25th with a Flashy Electric Special Edition
Hummer turns 25 this year, and while the brand has been quiet for long stretches, its oversized legacy is getting a proper nod. GMC, which now oversees the Hummer name, is celebrating with a limited-run electric model called the 2027 GMC Hummer EV Icon | 25. Available as both a pickup and an SUV, the special edition hits showrooms next year.
The name and the look are a direct throwback to the original H2. That bold yellow paint, dubbed Icon, is a modern take on the finish that put Hummer on the map as a standalone brand in 2002. GM bought the Hummer rights in 1999 and later rebadged the civilian Humvee as the H1, but it wasn’t until the H2 that Hummer became its own division.
Interestingly, the current setup, Hummer as a GMC sub-brand, was actually the original plan. GM first intended to sell Hummer models through GMC dealers, but kept them separate until the EV arrived.
Beyond the paint, the Icon | 25 gets a black front skid plate, custom drive mode graphics, and serialized dashboard badging. A photo of that badge hints at just 250 units, though it’s not clear if that’s per body style or total. GMC is also adding the Icon yellow to the regular 2027 Hummer EV lineup, along with four new colors: Dark Ridge, Azurite Blue, Dark Ember, and Deep Void Matte.
Two new 22-inch wheel designs debut, and a native NACS charge port means no adapter needed for Tesla Superchargers. Pricing and full specs come closer to launch, but expect a slight premium over the current 2X and 3X trims, which start around $97,200. GMC will show the Icon | 25 tonight at the ESPY Awards in New York, marking the brand’s return as the event’s official vehicle sponsor.
