GM Recalls Cadillac Vistiq EVs After Discovery of Child-Trapping Hazard

General Motors has issued a recall for roughly 14,000 Cadillac Vistiq electric vehicles from the 2027 model year, citing a design flaw that could trap a child inside the vehicle. The problem centers on the rear door handles, which can fail to release from the inside, leaving a young passenger unable to exit on their own.

The recall comes after GM halted shipments of the Vistiq last month. But here's the catch: the company has not yet produced the replacement parts needed to fix the issue. That means owners who receive recall notices will be told to wait until a remedy becomes available, a situation that safety advocates say is deeply concerning for families with small children.

GM says it is working to develop a solution and will notify dealers and owners as soon as parts are ready. In the meantime, the company advises owners to use the child safety locks on the rear doors and to supervise children closely when they are in the vehicle. The Vistiq is Cadillac's newest all-electric SUV, and this recall marks an early setback for the model's rollout.
