GM: Only New Genuine Parts Allowed in ADAS Repairs

General Motors has issued a strict policy for collision repairs involving its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The automaker says any repair must use only new, genuine GM parts, and it has explicitly banned salvaged, recycled, reconditioned, remanufactured, aftermarket, or secondary-market components for these systems.

In a collision position statement released in late July, GM said that non-genuine or used hardware may not have been built or handled correctly, which could hurt reliability and calibration. The ban covers radars, cameras, sensors, control modules, wiring, brackets, and mounting hardware used in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles.

GM also warns that certain add-ons, like protective films, wraps, window tint, hood protectors, bicycle racks, cargo racks, lightbars, and roof cargo carriers, can interfere with ADAS behavior. Notably, GM sells some of these as factory accessories, making the warning a bit awkward.

Additionally, suspension, steering, wheel, and tire modifications that change ride height or alignment angles may also negatively affect system performance.

The ADAS features covered include adaptive cruise control, forward collision assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, front pedestrian braking, head-up display, rear cross traffic alert, automatic parking assist, surround vision, Super Cruise, and hands-on lane centering assist.

GM emphasizes that its approved repair and calibration procedures must be followed exactly.
