GM Marks 25 Years of Hummer With a Blast-From-the-Past Yellow EV Edition

Twenty-five years after the first hulking yellow Hummer H2 rolled onto American driveways, General Motors is paying homage to that era with a special edition that’s as loud and unmistakable as the original. ” The automaker is clearly leaning into nostalgia for the early-2000s mega-SUV that defined a generation, even if today’s Hummer EV shares almost nothing mechanically with its gas-guzzling ancestor.
8 seconds. That’s a far cry from the 316-horsepower V8 in the 2003 H2. Inside, the limited-run ICON | 25 models feature a Jet Black interior with serialized badging on the instrument panel. GMC plans to debut the special edition at the 2026 ESPY awards in New York on July 15, and it will be offered on the 2X and 3X trims of both body styles.
But the anniversary edition isn’t the only update for 2027. The entire Hummer EV lineup is switching to native NACS charging ports, meaning owners can plug directly into Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. GM is also adding five new paint colors, Icon yellow, Dark Ridge, Azurite Blue, Dark Ember, and Deep Violet Matte, plus two new 22-inch wheel designs.
The signature party tricks remain: four-wheel steering with Crab Walk and King Crab modes, Extract Mode for a six-inch lift, and the eye-popping Watts to Freedom launch control. It’s a far cry from where the Hummer started, but if the original designers could see this electric beast now, they’d probably just smile.
