Genesis GV90 Leaked Specs Suggest Big Battery, But Not Big Range

Genesis is preparing its most ambitious vehicle yet: the GV90, a full-size, all-electric luxury SUV aimed at competing with top-tier brands like Mercedes and Bentley. Leaked technical details from South Korea's Ministry of Environment, first spotted by Korean Car Blog, reveal some surprising numbers about the flagship's powertrain.
52 kWh, which is larger than the packs in its corporate cousins, the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9, and even the Mercedes EQS. However, it's still far smaller than the massive battery in the GMC Hummer or Cadillac Escalade iQ, which has nearly double the capacity.
Power comes from a front motor rated at 322 horsepower and a rear motor at 335 horsepower, for a combined output of 657 bhp (666 hp). That should make the GV90 quick, but it will also be heavy, with a curb weight of 6,680 pounds. Despite the big battery, the expected EPA range is just 295 to 305 miles, which is surprisingly modest for such a large pack.
The range estimate likely varies depending on whether buyers choose 22-inch or 24-inch wheels.
Spy photos suggest the GV90 will closely follow the Neolun concept, including rear coach doors in the style of Rolls-Royce. Inside, there appears to be no traditional instrument cluster, so a head-up display will probably handle key information. The concept's rotating front seats seem unlikely to make production, but a cinema-style rear screen that folds down from the roof, wood flooring, and premium materials like silk leather and cashmere wool are expected.
Seating configurations may include six or seven seats, with a possible four-seat limousine version.
The GV90's weight is notable because it's only slightly heavier than a top-trim Cadillac Escalade ESV, despite carrying a much larger battery. The exact battery weight and type are still unknown, but the modest range for such a big pack raises questions about efficiency.
