Genesis GV90 Debuts as Hyundai's New Luxury EV Flagship

Hyundai Motor has unveiled its newest luxury flagship: the Genesis GV90, an all-electric large SUV that seats up to seven people. The vehicle introduces a fresh design direction for the Genesis brand and expands its U.S. lineup to seven models, as Hyundai continues to grow domestic sales.
S. market a decade ago. It is expected to compete with the Cadillac Vistiq and Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and Rivian R1S in the large SUV segment. Hyundai CEO José Muñoz called the launch a "landmark arrival" for the brand, noting it opens a new chapter built on innovation and customer experience.
S. sales expected to begin early next year. Pricing has not been announced and will be disclosed closer to launch. S. The company declined to say whether a hybrid or gas version might follow, as it has done with other models like the GV70 and G80. S. have slowed recently after the Trump administration ended federal support, including a $7,500 purchase incentive.
Two variants will be offered: the GV90 Neolun, featuring coach doors that open from the middle, and standard trims with conventional swing doors. A limited "First Edition" with special badging, wool cashmere, and other premium materials will also be available. Coach doors, sometimes called suicide doors, are rare because they are harder to engineer for safety, but Genesis says it met standards by designing a new structure that joins the doors to the body without a middle pillar.
The GV90 comes with a high-performance electric motor system delivering up to 490 kilowatts (about 660 horsepower) and 590 foot-pounds of torque. Expected range is roughly 310 miles, according to the company. The exterior features a vehicle-wide dual light that meets at the center, a design previously previewed as a concept in 2024.
Genesis U.S. sales through the first half of this year rose about 5% from a year earlier to 39,088 units, marking 22 consecutive months of year-over-year growth.
