Genesis GV90 Aims to Redefine Luxury in the Full-Size SUV Segment

Genesis has unveiled its first full-size SUV, the 2027 GV90, which closely follows the Neolun concept from a couple of years back. The flagship trim, called the GV90 Neolun, features what the automaker describes as the world's first hidden B-pillar and independently closing doors, a system it calls the Arch Gate.
These coach doors slide back slightly before swinging outward, creating a large opening for easier entry and exit.
8-inch wheelbase, nearly as long as a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, offering generous passenger space. In the Neolun Executive Suite four-seat configuration, front seats can rotate to face the rear, and the cabin includes a radiant-heated wood floor, a rear bulkhead, a refrigerator, and a Smart Vision Roof with six dimmable zones.
The standard GV90 seats up to seven and features a crystal sphere vehicle controller, genuine wood or stone trim, and cashmere fabric.
The exterior borrows design cues from the Neolun concept, including narrow LED headlight strips that bridge in the middle, a G-matrix mesh bumper, and taillights that span the rear fascia. The Neolun trim adds a crisp hip line over the rear wheel arches. Standard wheels are 22 inches, with 24-inch impeller-design wheels on the Neolun.
5-kWh battery and an 800-volt system. Genesis says a 350-kW fast charger can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes. Internal testing suggests a range of about 310 miles, which lags behind rivals like the Lucid Gravity and Cadillac Escalade IQ. Power comes from front and rear motors producing 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
Standard features include a limited-slip differential on both motors, multi-chamber air suspension, adaptive dampers, and rear-wheel steering with up to 5 degrees of angle.
Safety features include thicker steel in the A- and C-pillars, floor, and roof, robust side-impact beams, 12 airbags, and a world-first roof airbag for rollover protection. An in-cabin monitoring system adjusts airbag deployment based on occupant size and posture. 6-inch central touchscreen that rises slightly when parked.
A 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with tunable acoustics is also offered.
Genesis plans to have the GV90 in dealers by early 2027. Pricing has not been announced. The EV-only approach may be a concern given shifting buyer interest, but the design and comfort features could make it a strong contender against the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and Rivian R1S.
