Ford's Fathom electric pickup to start at $28,350, preorders open in 2027

Ford Motor announced Thursday that its upcoming midsize electric truck will be called the "Fathom" and carry a starting price of $28,350. With destination and delivery charges of $1,595, the total lands at $29,945, just under the $30,000 mark the automaker had long promised for its future EVs.
Preorders for the five-passenger truck will open in early 2027, with customer deliveries expected later that year. Ford has not yet revealed what the Fathom will look like.
The Fathom is the first model built on Ford's new "Universal Electric Vehicle" (UEV) platform, which the company says is essential to turning its Model e unit from billions in annual losses to breakeven by 2029. A Ford spokesperson said in an email: "We are confident that we have the best cost platform and are focused on the right market.
Ford's goal for the UEV platform is for each vehicle built on it to be profitable within a year of launch and cost-competitive with global EV leaders from China and Tesla. The company has had a secret unit working on the platform to make vehicles comparable in price to gas-powered models through new technologies and efficiencies.
