Ford’s Electric Vehicles Go All-In on Apple Maps for Navigation

Ford is making a bold bet on Apple Maps as the go-to navigation system for its upcoming electric vehicles. The automaker announced that Apple’s mapping software will be baked directly into its new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, which underpins a wave of affordable EVs set to roll out in the coming years.
The integration is powered by Apple’s MapKit for Automotive SDK, a toolkit designed to let carmakers plug navigation features into their dashboards with minimal fuss.
Apple says the partnership will bring “a beautiful and easy-to-use navigation experience” straight to the vehicle’s screens. Drivers can expect turn-by-turn directions delivered in natural language, live traffic updates, accident alerts, and multiple route options. But the deal goes deeper than just getting you from point A to point B.
” This marks the first time Apple’s mapping tech has been tapped to support self-driving features, a quiet consolation for those still waiting for an Apple Car.
The UEV platform will launch with a midsize pickup truck priced around $30,000, due in 2027. Ford has kept details of later models under wraps, but a promotional teaser showed everything from SUVs to sedans. The company’s bigger promise: its entire EV lineup will cost less than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.
That’s a bold claim in a market desperate for affordable electric options, one where even a stripped-down $25,000 EV pickup with no paint, no stereo, and manual windows managed to grab headlines.
