Ford’s Electric Mustang Hit by Another Recall as Quality Woes Continue

Ford Motor Company is once again recalling its all-electric Mustang Mach-E, the latest in a string of setbacks for the automaker’s flagship EV. The recall, disclosed in regulatory filings this week, affects thousands of vehicles over a potential software glitch that could cause unexpected power loss while driving.

The issue centers on the battery energy control module, which may misread voltage levels and trigger a sudden shutdown.

This marks at least the fifth recall for the Mach-E since its 2020 launch, raising fresh questions about the quality control systems at Ford’s EV manufacturing plants. While no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this specific defect, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation.

Ford says it will update the affected vehicles’ software free of charge at dealerships, and owners will be notified by mail starting next month.

The recall comes at a delicate time for Ford, which has bet heavily on electrification and is racing to catch up with Tesla and other EV makers. The Mach-E was initially praised as a strong competitor, but repeated recalls and service bulletins have dented consumer confidence. Industry analysts note that while software issues are common in new EV models, the frequency of Ford’s recalls suggests deeper problems in its development and testing processes.

Ford has not commented on whether the latest recall will affect production or sales targets for the rest of the year.
