Ford’s Budget Electric Truck Spotted Testing Alongside an Expedition in Michigan

Ford’s second shot at an electric pickup is hitting the pavement. Prototypes of the automaker’s upcoming $30,000 electric truck have been spotted undergoing real-world tests in Dearborn, Michigan, giving us our clearest look yet at the compact hauler.
The small truck, which Ford has confirmed will be nothing like the discontinued F-150 Lightning, is roughly the size of a Toyota RAV4 with a modest bed. In the spy photos, the camouflaged prototype was parked next to a Ford Expedition, offering a dramatic sense of scale. It rides on 19-inch wheels with Michelin E Primacy tires (245/55R19), though it’s unclear if that setup is standard or an option.
The design leans traditional rather than cab-forward, with a heavily raked windshield for aerodynamics and a blunt front end featuring a camera and active lower intake shutters. Real door handles are present, along with a small spoiler at the cab’s rear. Inside, a massive touchscreen dominates the dashboard, but heavy cladding hides whether a digital gauge cluster exists or if it’s a single-screen setup like Tesla.
Thick A-pillars could limit visibility, but we’ll hold off on judgment until production models arrive. Ford continues development, and we’ll keep you posted.
