Ford’s Big Recall: 741,000 Trucks and SUVs Hit by a Parking-Lock Problem

Ford’s Big Recall: 741,000 Trucks and SUVs Hit by a Parking-Lock Problem

Ford has issued a major recall covering 741,000 vehicles, including popular models like the F-150 and Explorer. The issue isn’t actually about the transmission itself—it’s a parking-lock damage problem. When the parking pawl fails to engage properly, the vehicle can roll away even when shifted into Park.

That’s a serious safety risk, and Ford is stepping up to fix it.

The recall affects certain 2021–2023 F-150 pickups, 2021–2023 Explorers, and a handful of other models like the Lincoln Aviator and Ford Expedition. According to the automaker, a faulty bushing in the transmission can wear down over time, allowing the parking pawl to slip. Drivers might notice the gear shifter feeling loose or hear a clunking noise.

In worst-case scenarios, the vehicle could move unexpectedly after the driver walks away.

Ford says it’s aware of a handful of injuries linked to the issue, though no crashes or fatalities have been reported. Dealers will replace the affected transmission parts free of charge. Owners can expect notification letters starting in February. If you drive one of these models and notice any unusual shifting behavior, it’s worth checking with your local dealer sooner rather than later.

At Boca Auto Care, we recommend staying proactive—this is one fix you don’t want to put off.
