Ford’s 800-HP Mustang FP800S: A Supercharged Stick-Shift Surprise

Ford knows a thing or two about building a fast Mustang. But lately, the company has noticed something interesting: not every buyer wants a dual-clutch transmission, magnetic dampers, or active aero. What they do want is a car they can build their way, and they’re willing to turn to the aftermarket to get it.
That’s where the Ford Custom Garage program comes in. It bundles Ford Accessories and Racing parts into a single, warranty-backed package, professionally installed at the dealer. And the crown jewel? 0-liter V8 that cranks out 800 horsepower and can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a convertible body.
We spent about 15 minutes behind the wheel of an FP800S at a recent Ford event, and it left a strong impression. The car we drove started as a GT coupe with the Performance package, magnetic dampers, and some carbon fiber aero bits. 0-liter Whipple supercharger with dual cooling blocks, boosting output to 800 horsepower (810 with the active exhaust) and 615 pound-feet of torque.
The package also includes upgraded rear axle half-shafts, a lowering kit with stiffer springs and revalved dampers, and flow-formed wheels. On the track, the car felt surprisingly civil at low speeds, smooth power delivery, a light clutch, and none of the leg-pumping stiffness you’d expect from an 800-horse muscle car.
But mash the throttle, and the rear tires will light up without hesitation.
The FP800S doesn’t come with upgraded brakes, so Ford recommends adding the $5,650 GT Performance package for Brembo stoppers. Our tester had them, and they provided plenty of bite. The suspension updates also do a great job of controlling body motion and keeping the tires planted.
The whole package costs $18,500 plus installation on top of any Mustang GT, and it’s covered under the same factory warranty when professionally installed. What’s most impressive is how the FP800S feels like a regular Mustang turned up to 11, not a stiff, intimidating track monster.
It offers subtle visual changes (three colorways for wheels and graphics), and can be paired with retro styling packages or the California Special. It’s a rare blend of genuine supercar power and everyday drivability, and we’re hoping for more time behind the wheel soon.
