Ford's 60th Recall of 2026: 565,591 Broncos Recalled Over Fire Risk

Ford's 60th Recall of 2026: 565,591 Broncos Recalled Over Fire Risk

Ford has issued its 60th recall of 2026, this time for a fire hazard affecting the Bronco. The recall was issued July 20, 2026, and covers 565,591 vehicles, including 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and Bronco Raptor models. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed starting August 24, 2026.

5 million vehicles.

According to the NHTSA, the engine compartment wiring harness may become damaged and short circuit, which can create heat or spark and increase fire risk. There is no 'do not drive' warning in effect. Fifteen Bronco fires have been reported, seven of them in Raptors. Raptors make up a small share of Broncos sold but nearly half of the fires, suggesting high-speed off-road use may worsen wiring chafing.

Drivers may first notice smoke coming through air vents, followed by a warning message on the instrument cluster, then flames on the passenger side of the engine bay. No serious injuries or casualties have been reported.

Ford's remedy is convolute sheathing and abrasion tape applied around the wiring. The problem is procedural, not a defective part: the sheathing is missing around a stretch of wiring routed past a sharp bracket edge. It has been observed in five different wiring harness designs.

Ford expects only one percent of recalled vehicles to need repair, about 5,656 units, and most should pass inspection. Parts are cheap, but with over half a million Broncos to inspect, owners may face long waits for service appointments.

Not every Bronco is affected, but nearly every Bronco built since the 2021 relaunch is being recalled. If you drive a Bronco, don't panic, but don't put it off. When the notification letter arrives, schedule a visit and get it handled.
